Valeriya is a journalist, covering gender, the arts, business and foreign affairs for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Parliament and more. Previously a staff reporter, editor, and producer at The New York Times, she has written on a range of topics, including the evolution of social media, the business of dating apps, and cannabis legalization. As a news editor and producer at The New York Times, she developed audience growth strategies, ran institutional social media accounts, and wrote news copy targeting digital natives. She also led The New York Times Women’s Network mentorship program.
In 2019, Valeriya was selected for the prestigious Fulbright professional grant, for which she moved to Munich and built a professional network from scratch in a new country. Since then, she has reported from Austria, Italy, England, Russia, and Denmark. Her writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The Economist, Wired, and Vogue, and she has been a guest on NPR, on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” HuffPost Live, and NY1. She frequently mentors up-and-coming professionals and students and has spoken to Fulbright fellows, Media Lab Bayern Journalism fellows, and students at The Peddie School. Valeriya graduated from Columbia University with a degree in East Asian Studies.
